Michelle Norris talks about her favorite books, music, and how she would spend her last day in NYC after her recent appearance on The Leonard Lopate Show.

What have you read or seen lately (book, play, film, etc.) that moved or surprised you?

The film “Mother and Child” touched my heart.  I cried so hard my head hurt.  I also loved the documentary “Still Bill” about Bill Withers.  What a genius.  A few books on my nightstand also left a strong impression.  Vida by Patricia Engel and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks [by Rebecca Skloot].  I have been raving about Clybourne Park for months.

What are you listening to right now?

Janelle Monae- She’s amazing

Old Weather Report.  Esperanza Spalding’s new CD, “Chamber Music.”

What’s the last great book you read?

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.

What’s one thing you’re a fan of that people might not expect?

Steely Dan – I’m a bit obsessive I have a daughter named Aja.

If you only had one day left, how would you spend it in New York City?

Eating my way from one end of the city to the other.
