Why the democrats did as badly as they did:

The Republicans have been "swift-boating" the Obama administration since Obama was elected president. I have received vulgar emails disparaging Obama with respect to his birth, his religion, etc, Similarly for Pelosi and Biden. This garbage has been pervading cyberspace for the last two years and people who are not too swift begin to believe it.

People receiving food stamps should think carefully when spending tax-payers money. I was on welfare once and it benefited and my children when I was not employed. The money I received, I used it to complete an Associates Degree while the stamps allowed me to feed my children healthily.
If can suggest to the government, only allow welfare monies to buy fish, meat and vegetables for parent with kids. As for the elderly they should be allowed prepared meals from the supermarket because it is more cost effective.

I read your take on why the first year's provisions in the health care bill are rolling out first. You said you think it has to do with these provisions being popular. I think it is more because they are some of the least expensive provisions. In order to roll out the really big provisions, there will have to be a mandate in place or it will be too expensive to comply with all the new rules. The reason premiums are going up is that they go up all the time. Health care costs 6-12% more each year. The premiums reflect that. Some of the insurance companies may be trying to amass more money now to be ready for the new requirements, but good luck with that. The extra money will probably get eaten up in claims.
