Perkins states that all of the Democratic clubs other than Keith Wright's, in the district supported him. That is untrue. Two other clubs in Harlem endorsed his opponent and one club in Harlem voted no endorsement. Therefore four out of six clubs in Harlem are not behind Perkins and his candidacy.

Basil says that 70% of his contributions come from small donors. Does that also include 70% of the aggregate dollars?

Go with expanded Rent Stabilization-it will spur the economy if 3 weeks pay does not go to lazy landlords.

Chater schools work because they are selective and the teachers are not the inadequate babysitters that house the public school system, in poor neighborhoods.

Translation: Madoff and outsiders means Whites and Jews. Perkins believes only blacks can teach blacks, proof that he is bad for the black community.

Eminent Domain abuse is an unspoken issue in this campaign. I met Basil Smikle at 227 Duffield Street, a station on the Underground Railroad that the Bloomberg administration wanted to demolish to build an underground parking lot and micro-park. Smikle was working for the '09 Bloomberg campaign, and he didn't even know that his candidate was in favor of demolishing the historic site.

There has been extensive abuse of eminent domain in Harlem, not only in the Columbia confiscation of private property for its expansion, but also on 125th Street east.

Perkins has raised some serious questions. From what I have seen, he seems to be one of the most serious, productive members of the NY Senate.

Please don't overlook the other huge dynamic in this Senate race (beyond charter schools) which is REAL ESTATE. Bill Perkins is among the strongest fighters in Albany for legislation to protect tenants and affordable housing, particularly saving and strengthening the rent stabilization system. Basil Smikle is being heavily financed by landlord lobbyists. The landlords are funneling money to Smikle because they're desperately looking to find candidates who will collaborate in the quiet demise of rent stabilization, letting apartments go market rate when they become vacant. The litmus test is the bill to end vacancy decontrol - which would stop landlords from being allowed to remove apartments from rent regulation when they become vacant if the legal rent reaches $2000, and re-regulate apartments that have already gone market-rate. Bill Perkins is a sponsor of the bill to end vacancy decontrol and will clearly explain his support for this measure. Basil Smikle, on the other hand, knows how to respond to vague questions about affordable housing, saying that he wants to build more so-called affordable housing and so on, but when it comes to the largest affordable housing protection program in NYC - rent regulation, which keeps rent below market for over 2.5 million people in a million apartments - Smikle will give evasive answers, and would never commit to the full repeal of vacancy decontrol and the re-regulation of the 300,000 apartments we've lost already.

Charter schools is a misnomer, they are actually SELECTIVE schools. If non-charter school (public schools) could operate as charter schools (selective schools), then there would be no acedemic differences between the two. Until charter (selective) schools are forced to accept all applicants and are prevented from transferring students, then they will always outperform public schools. Do these candidates understand this?
