Elsie Maio, president of Maio & Co. Brand Consulting, discusses what BP has to do to rehabilitate its image and what others should do to hold them to their promises.
Great show! I would like to know if Ms. Maio could recommend a book or website with guidelines on how to avoid these poisonous chemicals in everyday life, in particular in the products that are deemed safe and ethical. And thank you.
Employees are the best source for information... But we are seeing unprecedented efforts by companies to hammer whistleblowers. The Obama administration has gone _beyond_ the Bush administration in trying to destroy whistleblowers -- consider the case of Bradley Manning.
Here's a slogan for Soul Marketing, free of charge: "Sincerity. Once you can fake that, you've got it made."
morality via public relations-what a waste of time-putting bandaids on ruptured arteries-flat earth society drivel........
Too soon to be discussing redemption.
Please ask your guest how much is BP investing in alternative energy research at this time?
Perhaps BP can invest more of their profits into alternative energy research as part of their redemption?
What exactly does Mz. Maio mean when she says "businesses are the Juggernaut of our world"?
Jagannātha means 'master, lord' (nātha) of the 'World, Universe' (jagat).
From the Oxford English Dictionary:
1. Hindu Myth. A title of Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu; spec., the uncouth idol of this deity at Puri in Orissa, annually dragged in procession on an enormous car, under the wheels of which many devotees are said to have formerly thrown themselves to be crushed. 2. fig. An institution, practice, or notion to which persons blindly devote themselves, or are ruthlessly sacrificed. Also Juggernaut car in same sense.
David used to host a show where this kind of namby pamby bushwa would never have made the light of electrons. Good to hear your voice, but remind Ms. Maio that BP changed its name (slogan: Beyond Petroleum) and logo to try to pretend to be earth friendly. Shaell has not gotten over potentiating the death of Ken Saro Wiwa (that was Shell, right?). It's the lack of memory & lack of competition that has cleared their name. And no, we are not "guilty" of bad corporate behavior because we want their products.ANd it is considered corporate malfeasance to look at anything but the bottom line.
Did Exxon Mobil want to do the right thing? It's still litigating some cases from the Exxon Valdez disaster.
In my next lifetime I want to come back as a "brand consultant." Must be cool making a living stating the obvious and making it seem like learned, valuable advice.
So Don Blankenship of Massey Energy wants to do the right thing?
Lloyd Blankfein wants to do the right thing? Must believe he is, since he asserts Goldman Sachs is "doing God's work."
Tobacco executives wanted to do the right thing when they lied to all Americans, lied before Congress, etc?
The paint industry that asserted lead in paint was safe despite _decades_ of evidence to the contrary wanted to do the right thing?
If Elsie Maio wants to make sweeping and absurdly false statements, maybe she should concentrate on interviews via Fox and Glenn Beck.
