Is Google Over?

Monday, August 02, 2010

Michael V. Copeland, senior writer, and Stephanie Mehta, executive editor, of Fortune magazine discuss Google’s transition from a growth company to a cash cow, and how that’s affecting its performance on Wall Street. Google’s projected earnings growth of 18% is a third of what Google averaged over the past five years, which isn’t impressive for technology companies. Their story “Is Google Over” appears in the August 16 issue of Fortune magazine.

Wow, that's a pretty outrageous claim/ question/ headline. First, I'd like to make it clear that I'm not an advocate for google. If you consider the fact that 90% of your listeners who followed up or looked for this article, used google to find it, that should basically answer the question. A better title would have been a legitimate question, like "What's Google's next big move?".
Honestly, the novelty of facebook has worn off for many users. I think most users can say that 50%-75% of their FB friends almost never update their status, and just read other peoples status. Most just use it to get in touch with people, and little else. Is FB over?
Better yet, is Microsoft over? I use win 7, but I don't really like it. They're completely disconnected from the needs and interests of their users, not unlike the last 20 years of GM and Ford.
My question to the writers is, how many times did you use google to write your article?... I'm with CL from NY on this one.
