Former Mayor David Dinkins endorses Mayoral Candidate William Thompson

Former Mayor David Dinkins is endorsing his friend City Comptroller Bill Thompson, the leading Democratic challenger to Michael Bloomberg, in this year's mayoral race. Dinkins says Thompson has been a good public servant and predicts he'll be a fine mayor. But Dinkins won't criticize Bloomberg outright, who he also considers a friend.

When asked why he isn't endorsing Bloomberg, Dinkins told reporters, 'Gee, I wish he were a Democrat.' Dinkins added that one reason he's voting for Thompson is because Democrats should stick together.
