Reverend Timothy Wright Dies

Friday, April 24, 2009

wrightThe Brooklyn pastor and gospel singer, Timothy Wright, has died, after an eight-month struggle to recover from injuries he received in a car crash last year. Wright was 61 years old. Wright, the pastor at the Grace Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Crown Heights, was critically injured in a crash on Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania. His wife and grandson were killed in the accident. Wright released more than a dozen gospel recordings, and worked for Manhattan radio station WLIB. In a statement, Mayor Bloomberg extended his sympathies to Reverend Wright's family, and said he inspired millions of Americans as the 'godfather of gospel.'

'You Must Come In At the Door'

Long time friend and producer of the late reverend, Dr. Bobby Banks, described Wright as a giant in the gospel industry that remained personal to the people that loved his music.

'He was just so much different from people who get stardom. He would go to the smallest, what they call store front churches, that would probably have a membership of 50 to 100 people, and he would sing like he would sing when I produced him at Madison Square Garden.'

I was devastated to learn the death of Rev Timothy. I know now, you are in the heavenly kingdom, in the right hand side of God the creator. I like your gospel music and I am good listener of it.
RIP Rev Tim

Pastor Timothy Wright was in Revival at Pastor Dewitt Jackson's church Revival Center, Michigan, City, Indiana. He was a blessing to us preaching the Word of God as well as singing. My prayers go out to the family and members. He will be missed.

Sympathy from the Hedgebeth family to the Wright family. My hubby and I, had the opportunity to meet and hear Rev. Wright preach and sing. He was in North Carolina at Davenport Temple, D.O.C. in Washington, N.C. last year. He brought the Word of God to the congregation. I am greatful for having a chance to see him and and we also sat in the front row. Up close and almost personal. So many times, you have to see him on a wide screen. I am thankful we didn't.

Again, prayers and sympathy to and for the family.

I got the priviledge to meet Rev. Wright in 2007 at GMWA convention in Orlando, Florida. I asked him to sing a little of "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus" and he did without any hesitation and also took a pic with me. He is loved and will be missed.

Pastor Wright, Your music was so inspiring to anyone who loved Gospel music. You definitely touch my life with the songs you recorded, my all time favorite was, "You Must Come in at the Door"

So go on take your rest, we all loved you, but GOD love loved you best.

We will see you and other loved ones on the other shore, where the departing of the SAINTS will be no more.....
