First Snow Day in 5 Years

Monday, March 02, 2009

It's a snow day today for a lot of kids. New York City public schools are closed today, as are many schools in the suburbs. Updated forecasts are calling for as much as 10 inches of snow in the city by the end of the day, with more possible on Long Island.

Work crews have been salting and plowing the streets since last night in an effort to keep roads and highways clear.

Mass transit is a good way to get around today if you need to get somewhere. Either way, you'll want to budget some extra time. The Long Island Rail Road has up to 20 minutes delays. MetroNorth and NJ Transit rail lines have scattered delays of up to 10 to 15 minutes.

And, alternate side parking rules are suspended, but parking meter rules remain in effect.
