Maazel has conducted 130 orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic, whose music you'll hear in this piece. The 70-year old Maazel says he wasn't planning on taking another full time job, until he came to New York last year as a guest conductor. Then, as he put it, he "fell in love." Judith Kampfner interviewed Lorin Maazel, who told her he was "blown away" by that experience with the New York Philharmonic.
