New York, NY —
NASCAR powered into Times Square today giving hundreds of local fans a chance to see their favorite drivers up close and personal. And if race promoters have their way, those New York and New Jersey fans will have plenty more opportunities to see the races.
Plans for a track on Staten Island took a big step forward this week when International Speedway Corporation announced it would complete the purchase of a 675-acre site south of the Goethals Bridge. ISC presented a preliminary study to the City Planning Department yesterday that calls for an 80-thousand seat speedway, along with a retail mall.
