Newark Gets a Narcotics Division

Tuesday, January 09, 2007

Newark Mayor Cory Booker says the city's police department has created a special division to combat drug trafficking.

He says the formation of the new unit is part of an effort to curb rampant drug violence in Newark. The announcement came a day after two teenagers were shot and killed, in what police suspect was a drug-related incident.

Booker says officers within the 45-person unit will target dealers and distributors, including gangs.
