Mayor Bloomberg Gets Inspiration Overseas

Monday, October 01, 2007

Mayor Bloomberg has been traveling in Europe, looking for sustainability and security ideas along the lines of what he's advocating for the city.

REPORTER: He got a tour of London's so-called ring of steel that helped inspire the New York Police Department to start testing new camera technology around Lower Manhattan.

Bloomberg told the the BBC today that it's important to innovate but you need people's support.

BLOOMBERG: Trying something where you don't know where it's gonna come out, don't know what it's gonna look like, how much it's gonna cost who's gonna use it or in fact whether it will work. But it you want innovation you have to be able to do that and you only do that where everybody has confidence in you.

REPORTER: The mayor is also scheduled to ride a double decker bus and check out a hybrid taxi and part of his environmental push, back home.
