Comptroller Audit Critical of Skyport

Tuesday, July 08, 2008

New York City's comptroller is calling a marina and parking facility on the East River "an accident waiting to happen".

William Thompson, a potential candidate for mayor, says his auditors reported degraded piers, corroded steel, cracked concrete and other violations at a site leased by New York Skyports, Inc.

THOMPSON: I think the first recommendation almost would be to terminate the lease with Skyport because they've done that poor a job.

REPORTER: New York Skyports' lawyer charges that the auditors relied on outdated information and that the city is looking for a way out of the lease.

The lawyer says his client was audited for the first time this year, after a nearly 50 year landlord/tenant relationship. The lease ends in 2012.
