Monday, July 28, 2008

Deadly rip-tides off city and Long Island beaches this weekend claimed the lives of at least four people with three more still missing. Rescuers suspended their search yesterday for 10-year-old Akira Johnson who disappeared off Coney Island Saturday afternoon.

Still missing since Friday are a teenager who disappeared off Long Beach on Long Island and a 23-year-old man swept away off Jacob Riis Park in Queens.

The bodies of four other drowning victims were recovered at Long Island beaches Friday and Saturday, including two men in separate incidents off Long Beach, a 42-year-old man at a beach in East Quogue in Suffolk County, and a man in his 20s who was swimming at Sandy Bar Beach on Long Island's East End.
