Bloomberg Says WTC Redevelopment is Too Slow

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

Mayor Bloomberg says the redevelopment of the World Trade Center is going too slowly...and he's asking Governor Paterson to dismantle the Lower Manhattan Development Authority, and give its tasks to the city.

He says the LMDC may have been a good idea at the time....

BLOOMBERG: And I probably would've done the same thing if I was part of that decision. But later on it turned out that we did not need another level of authority.

REPORTER: The mayor, in a Wall Street Journal op-ed today, also says the PATH terminal and its column-free underground mezzanine should be scaled back, because it's too complicated. The LMDC declined comment.

Both Governor Paterson and the Port Authority say they're tabling a discussion of the future of the site until the Authority presents a new budget and timeline later this month.
