Dog Days for Gray's Recession Special

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

The Manhattan hot dog chain "Gray's Papaya" has been offering its popular "recession special" for years so it's a bit ironic, now that we're probably in one, the price of two dogs and a drink has gone up nearly a buck - from $3.50 to $4.45. Regular customers like Gordon Ramsey are not happy.

RAMSEY: It went up almost a buck...that crummy!

REPORTER: Brooklyn's Elena Arroyo says even though she eats at Gray's to save money, she's taking the price hike in stride.

ARROYO: To me it's whatever because everything else is going up too and they have to pay for their supplies and everything so, c'mon.

REPORTER: The last time the Recession special went up was 2006.
