In With the New, But Recycle the Old

Friday, December 26, 2008

If Santa brought you shiny new gadgets for Christmas this year, don't throw the old ones in the garbage.

Electronics like TVs, computers, and cell phones contain toxins that can pollute air and water. The Lower East Side Ecology Center will be holding four electronics recycling events in early January. Executive Director Christine Datz-Romero says her organization will take a look at anything you bring in. If it's still usable, they'll donate it; if not, they'll make sure it's recycled.

DATZ-ROMERO: We work with a recycler that does does not export any materials and that makes sure that all the materials collected are being recycled in an environmentally sound manner.

REPORTER: You can find a link to the recycling events here.
