Fashion Week Underway With Less Glitz

Monday, February 16, 2009

Fashion Week is in full swing at Bryant Park and elsewhere around the city. People in the industry say, overall, the mood is more somber and less flamboyant this year. The economic downturn has forced many designers to scale back, with fewer runway shows and parties.

It's also changing the habits of this city's fashionistas.

KUGELMAN: I'm definitely changing where I'm shopping, what I'm buying and how much I'm buying. I used to shop a lot at Prada and now i shop a lot at J. Crew."

REPORTER: Sara Kugelman works for a skin care line providing products for some of the shows. She says she notices less conspicuous consumption throughout the industry, and in her own life.

Fashion Week lasts through Friday.
