Councilman Wants Apology for Texas Pol's Gaffe

Friday, April 10, 2009

City Councilman John Liu is demanding an apology from a Texas lawmaker who made a comment about Asian-American names.

Discussing voter identification problems at a state house hearing Thursday, Representative Betty Brown said Asian-Americans should quote "adopt a name just for identification purposes that was easier for Americans to deal with".

Liu has sent a letter to the Texas Republican saying she should apologize or resign for the comment. Brown says she has reached out to an Asian-American organization to apologize but hasn't gotten a response yet.
