Paterson Calls for Another Senate SessionToday

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

Governor Paterson has called another special session of the state Senate today after yesterday's session ended in confusion. Karen DeWitt has more from Albany.

REPORTER: The Democrats and the Republican dominated coalition shouted over one another as each claimed that they had the right to conduct the extraordinary session.

When no bills appeared immediately the GOP plus Democratic Senator Pedro Espada left. The remaining Democrats continued to act on legislation. Governor David Paterson, who said he was disgusted, said he questioned whether the Senate's actions were even legal.

PATERSON: The Senate's inaction is a dereliction of duty. They have clearly forgotten who they serve.

REPORTER: Never the less, the Governor says he will order the Senators back into the chamber for another session Wednesday. In Albany, I'm Karen DeWitt.
