Injured Troops Visit NYC

Friday, July 31, 2009

Troops who were injured in Iraq and Afghanistan are getting a break from their medical therapy, by visiting the city this weekend. This morning they took a luxury yacht tour on the Hudson and tomorrow they get to see shows on Broadway. Soldier Drew Hill from Minnesota shattered his leg in Iraq and has had to learn how to walk all over again. He says seeing New York is the perfect way to celebrate the accomplishment.

HILL: It feels good to be up and moving around as a normal person. I love coming on these trips because they're a distraction. I can't say I've never been to Broadway. We'll see what happens it should be fun.

The troops are being hosted by a group called HAI, a New York-based nonprofit that promotes healing through the arts.
