Lefferts Gardens Block Named Greenest in Brooklyn

Wednesday, August 05, 2009

A block of Lincoln Road in Lefferts Gardens has been named Brooklyn's greenest residential block.

REPORTER: Tolonda Tolbert has lived on Lincoln -- between Bedford and Rogers Avenues -- for seven years. She says it takes a tight-knit group of neighbors to break up concrete and plant the trees, flowers and lush sidewalk gardens that make the street so green.

TOLBERT: The young people and the older residents work together side by side sweating it out, so I think that is something that is very special. We live in an old-fashioned neighborhood.

REPORTER: This is the 15th year for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's "Greenest Block in Brooklyn" contest, but it's the first time for this particular block to take home the title.
