Senate Expected to Confirm Sotomayor Nomination Today

Thursday, August 06, 2009

On Capitol Hill, US Senators are expected to approve the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the US Supreme Court today. During yesterday's floor debate, New York Senator Charles Schumer, who's voting for Sotomayor, openly questioned the motives of Republicans, most of whom oppose the nominee.

SCHUMER: By my count my colleagues on the other side of the aisle asked no fewer than 17 questions about her 'wise latina woman' comment.

REPORTER: Schumer says the Bronx native is a clear moderate. Some Republicans call Sotomayor an activist, who would bring bias to the high court. But enough Republicans have voiced support for Sotomayor to make her approval all but assured.
