Monday, August 17, 2009
New York, NY —
Summer finally feels like it's arrived, with the high hitting 91 degrees today. Mayor Bloomberg urged New Yorkers to take it easy in the heat, and also on the air conditioning thermostat.
BLOOMBERG: But if you are not in the room or not at home, please turn your air conditioner off. Consider visiting a pool or a library, a shopping mall or a theater. You can get breaks from the heat in all of those places.
The city health department opened cooling centers throughout the five boroughs. Many are located at senior centers. The heat is expected to last through tomorrow.
