Mayors Launch Cities of Service Volunteer Campaign

Thursday, September 10, 2009

Mayors from around the country joined Mayor Bloomberg in Times Square to launch a campaign aimed at getting more people to volunteer. Cory Booker is mayor of Newark:

BOOKER: We all know that America is not a spectator sport, it's a democracy and we have to get in the game.

The "Cities of Service" campaign relies on more than mayors to get the message out. Actors Ashton Kutcher and Fran Drescher, and American Idol critic Randy Jackson added some star power to today's announcement. Tomorrow, September 11th, the anniversary of the terrorist attacks, is also a national day of service.
