Fresh Faces Join New City Council

Thursday, January 07, 2010

Some fresh faces have joined city government. At a swearing-in event yesterday, a class of 12 new council members were inaugurated.

REPORTER: Margaret Chin - one of two new Asian-Americans on the council - represents District 1 in downtown Manhattan. She says that while her CLASS may be new to the council:

CHIN: We're not that new. We've been organizing on the outside for many, many years. A lot of us are activists, community organizers, so we're bringing in a new wave of energy into the city council.

REPORTER: Chin says the large number of community organizers now in the council will help bring government closer to the people.
