Tim Weiner won the non-fiction prize for Legacy of Ashes

Sherman Alexie won the prize for young people’s literature for The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. He was a guest on the show in June 2007 to talk about his new novel, Flight

Joan Didion also won the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters; she was most recently on the Lopate Show in May 2007

Terry Gross also won the Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community. She spoke with Leonard in 2004.
