Gay Marriage Advocates' Next Target: Stachowski

There's some jockeying going on to be the lead advocate for same-sex marriage in New York.

On Friday, it was announced that Brian Ellner would lead the new Campaign for New York Marriage--a group associated with the Washington-based Human Rights Campaign.

Today (the first business day since Ellner's announcement) [spelling fixed] another group--Fight BackNY--announced they're targeting Democratic State Senator Bill Stachowski for defeat this fall.

Here's the email from Fight Back NY:

Dear _____________,

We wanted you to be the first to know: We're going after Buffalo Democrat Bill Stachowski.

Sen. Stachowski's voted against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) New Yorkers at every turn, whether it's nondiscrimination protections or marriage equality. He's been part of the dysfunctional New York State Senate for far too long -- 30 years. Sen. Stachowski does not represent fair-minded New Yorkers, and it's time we hold him accountable. We need your help.

Make a contribution to Fight Back New York today to help remove Stachowski from office. Give what you can, whether it's $5, $25, or $250.

Remember the hard-hitting tactics we used to help keep anti-equality Hiram Monserrate from office this spring? We'll be engaging in similar targeted outreach to voters in Sen. Stachowski's district. It's time our elected officials learned that they can't vote against equality and expect to keep their seats.

Every contribution goes directly toward communicating to voters in Stachowski's district. Help us turn up the volume on why Stachowski should be booted in the September primary. The more money you give, the louder you get to be! Click here to contribute now.

Thank you for your support. Together we can win this!

Azi, what are you talking about?

Last week, Fight Back held a contest to name the next target. "Next week we’ll announce a new target." Hardly the 'jockeying' you report it to be. Your evidence? The fact that they make the announcement on the "frist" (EDITOR!) business day back from the holiday.

Wow. I thought you left your shoddy reporting behind when you joined WNYC. Sorry to say you didn't. Even more sorry to see that WNYC doesn't have a strong editor tempering your penchant for conjecture.
