As part of radio blitz this morning, David Paterson laid out the case against Democratic and Republican opposition to his budget cuts.
Speaking on WNYC this morning, Paterson said Republicans in the state senate were rejecting budget cuts that they themselves had earlier proposed. The reason: the Republicans are “secretly” going to the “special interests” and promising to protect them and thus currying favor in advance of the November elections, Paterson said.
Paterson also scoffed at the characterization from Democratic State Senator Pedro Espada that lawmakers are actually close to a budget. Paterson said that’s not true and diminishes it the seriousness of the financial crisis New York is in.
“That is absolutely incorrect,” said Paterson. “That is a gimmick designed to make everyone think everything is fine. He should have been an orchestra soloist on the Titanic.”
