Wednesday, December 17, 1997

We'll listen to texts by the great 13th century poet and mystic Jalal ad-Din Rumi, poetry that is nearly music, as incorporated into ritual music of the Mawlawiyah order of the Whirling Dervishes, a sect founded by Rumi. We'll hear the complete Sema ritual in six parts, as recorded in Istanbul, Turkey from a multi-CD set called "The Music of Islam."
