Winter Songs

« previous episode | next episode »

Saturday, December 22, 2007

Almost no one’s favorite season, and yet it has inspired lots of evocative new music, including works by Aulis Sallinen, Wendy Carlos, Glen Moore, Edgar Meyer, and Dino Saluzzi. New Sounds goes deep freeze for this hour with music by David Byrne, the Modern Mandolin Quartet with Edgar Meyer, and perhaps Ralph Towner as well.

Peter, we're glad you found us too... it took a while since NPR stopped carrying us for word about the internet option to spread, but yes, all the shows are here. Glad you are too.

I'm glad I found this. One of my favorite Christmas tapes is stuff I recorded off New Sounds in Dec. 1995. I was just listening to it and the part that always makes me sad, when John Schaeffer announced that the show would be cut in two weeks time but would continue to be broadcast locally, in NYC. The little light went on in my head: "maybe it's on the internet now." Yay! Season's Greetings. Yours is one of my all time favorite NPR shows.
