On this New Sounds program, the focus is on longtime leaders of the West Coast new music scene, the California EAR Unit. Host John Schaefer devotes an hour to the ensemble's performances of music by four different composers; Arthur Jarvinen, Morton Subotnick, Virko Baley, and Kitty Brazelton. The EAR Unit just marked its 20th anniversary season, and it remains as fresh a presence as ever in creation and performance of new music.
