David Byrne’s career has been all surprises from Talking Heads’ exploration of African music as incorporated into rock, to his writings as a classical composer, and on top of that, as curator of the record label Luaka Bop. In this New Sounds program from June 17, 1997, Byrne visits the studio to chat with John about his then brand-new “world pop” record of songs, “Feelings,” featuring collaborations with Morcheeba and the Balanescu Quartet, elaborate string arrangements, good groove and lush harmonies. Also, Byrne introduces music by some of his Luaka Bop labelmates, including Paolo Braganca and Jim White.
