It’s a tour of the Eastern half of the Mediterranean on this episode of New Sounds. Hear music from the Palestinian (Galilean)-born New York based oud player and violinist, Simone Shaheen and the group Qantara, from their grammy-nominated CD Blue Flame. Turn next to the Turkish gypsy music of the Barbaros Erköse Ensemble, and keep roaming with the gypsy strings of Tarafs de Haidous vs. the horns of the Kocani Orkestar. Plus, listen for the amazing speed-horns of the Romanian ensemble Fanfare Ciocarlia.

PROGRAM #1980, music from the Eastern Mediterranean (First aired on 12/6/01)
