Program #1084

This is without question, the most requested New Sounds program from the vaults. It’s one in the Theme and Variations series, based on a popular song that goes by several names: often recorded under the title, "Wimoweh," but the original South African Zulu hunting song was called "Mbube," yet most people think of the Tokens' classic 1961 doo-wap hit, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," as well as its more recent appearance in the soundtrack to the Lion King. From South Africa’s Solomon Linda in the 1930s to They Might Be Giants, we survey of widely varied arrangements of this enduring favorite.
