Program #1932

New Sounds takes a look at new African music. We get a taste of Mbalax, the intricate dance music of Senegal, performed by singer Cheikh Lo, who also incorporates Cuban elements in his "Jeuness Senegal." Then it's on to Boni Gnahore, the "drum-master" and lead vocalist of the Attoungblan choir. His album "Pedou" features Congolese classical performer Ray Lema in a fusion of funk, afrobeat, and jazz. And we hear selections from Senegalese Mansour Seck who is internationally known as the long time musical partner of Baaba Maal.

PROGRAM #1932, acoustic Afropop (First aired on Tues, 7/3/01)
