Program #1865

The all-embracing Bang On A Can Marathon was an especially diverse affair when the event moved to the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 2000. Highlights of that day included David Lang's reconceptions of songs by Lou Reed, including "Sunday Morning" and "Heroin," both of which incorporated some classical nuances, like a continuously circling cello in the latter song. We also hear Phil Kline's "Yawp," which features a succession of eight boomboxes playing mystical, unworldly sounds. Other high points include Steve Martland's Horses of Instruction (pictured).
