Program #1733

New Sounds puts its eclectic and young spin on music for Hanukkah. We hear the exquisitely beautiful "Neshamah," by guitarist Tim Sparks (featuring some incredibly fast fingerwork). We also hear traditional Jewish melodies from throughout Eastern Europe and the Middle East, by David Krakauer’s Klezmer Madness, the Paradox Trio, Continuo, and Le'Eyla. The real gem of the program may be the atmospheric and utterly mesmerizing "Song of Praise," featuring jazz trumpeter Frank London, keyboardist Wayne Horvitz, and oud player Michael Kashou.
