Thursday, November 28, 2002

New Sounds presents some memorable performances from its first 2000 episodes. Kicking off the program is Penguin Café Orchestra as heard in the very first New Sounds broadcast, September 3, 1982. We move ahead four years to a 1986 performance at Merkin Concert Hall by overtone singing master David Hykes and The Harmonic Choir, in their landmark work, "Hearing Solar Winds." Other highlights include Robert Moran performing in host John Schaefer’s kitchen; Laurie Anderson’s memorable performances from the New Sounds Live 10th Anniversary special; guitarist John Fahey’s inimitable "Good King Wenceslas"/"Green Onions" Medley; and the McCullough Sons of Thunder at New Sounds Live/World Festival of Sacred Music.
