Louis Auchincloss

Louis Auchincloss, the dapper Wall Street lawyer and old school New Yorker who published over 60 works of fiction, biography, and literary criticism, died recently at the age of 92.

He was often compared to William Dean Howells and Edith Wharton, and he brought a fondness, with an incisive edge, to his depictions of a lost world he knew so well. You can hear Leonard Lopate’s last interview with him from January of 1990.
