60-Second Stir Fry: Rosie Schaap, New York Times Magazine Columnist

Adding alcohol to the searing hot pan of the Stir Fry was bound to cause trouble. I should have had a fire extinguisher on hand for my lightning round with New York Times Magazine "Drinks" columnist Rosie Schaap.

The flame-out occurred just 48 seconds into the stir-fry, and it wasn't Schaap who got burned. It was me. Forty-eight seconds in, my iPhone stopped recording. Move over, Miss Rosie, for Beyoncé  Schaap's lightning round went lights out because of my recent download of Queen B's new album. Fifteen songs and 15 music videos. HuffPo called it a "mammoth investment" on Beyoncé's part, but it was a mammoth battery-draining, storage-busting investment on mine.  

Well, even 48 seconds of searing heat from the Stir Fry appeared to be enough to wilt Schaap. She couldn't think of her favorite song of 2013 — couldn't even think of a song of 2013.  Not even "Blurred Lines," the omnipresent Robin Thicke song of the summer, and certainly nothing from "Beyoncé."  

Schaap said her musical tastes lie in a different century (19th, not 20th). She recently appeared on WNYC's Soundcheck, where she paired three of her favorite songs, all old folk tunes, with drinks.  

Music, booze, and now, food, with her appearance on "Last Chance Foods."  

"I'm working toward the public radio trifecta," she said.
