States of the Union: Oklahoma

Thursday, March 27, 2008

Although Oklahoma has been a reliably Republican state in presidential elections in recent years, The Sooner State is home to a lot of registered Democrats. Find out what makes these Democrats vote for Republican candidates; also, a look at how the recent push for alternative fuels has been received in a state that is the fifth-largest producer of crude oil in the nation and the second-largest producer of natural gas. Randy Krehbiel is staff writer at The Tulsa World.

States of the Union fact for the week: There are 25 different native languages spoken in Oklahoma, the highest number in the country.

Hey Paula, Thank's for your "kind words" ... Sounds like you have quite a temper too. Oh well, I guess you know best. Take care, NickV

I didn't look this up to confirm but I think the last time Oklahoma voted Democratic in a presidential election was for LBJ.

And Senator Infhofe and global warming/// does he reflect the sentiments of the public or the industry?

He also has a temper, he is ancient, has little domestic understanding and changes positions on major aspects of his policy to woo evangelicals.

Wake up! Same but in a different package. I would be very happy to have Obama answer the phone, thank you very much.

Paula, fear not... John McCain is the person you want to answer the phone in the White House at 3am. He is a centrist,he has extensive foreign affairs experience and he will work with the Democrat party. Unlike the moron currently occupying the White House. Also keep in mind Senator McCain is against the mistreatment of prisioners and does not like war. If you compare Senator McCain to Clinton or Obama he has the most qualifications to lead a country of 300
million people Make you vote count we are living in very dangerous time. Best of luck, NickV , ret. law enforcement

I'm a third generation Oklahoman, and my parents are middle class Democrats. They both like McCain but recognize that he is dangerous because of the tax cuts and the war, and say they will vote for either Democratic candidate. I wonder if a lot of Oklahoma Dems see McCain as viable, as he is barely getting a feather dusting by the press. Also, when was the last time that Oklahoma went Democratic in a general election, if ever? just curious.
