Final Camping Ground

Friday, August 03, 2007

When Green-Wood Cemetery historian Jeffrey Richman began researching Civil War soldiers buried there, he never expected to locate more 3,000 of them. His book and CD Final Camping Ground tells the stories of these brave men in their own words, via letters, journals, and battlefield reports.

I was one of about twenty volunteers, who using the Soldiers and Sailors Databasse produced by the National Park Service and century old cemetery logbooks identified the Civil War veterans buried at Greenwood and obtained tombstones from the US Department of Veterans Affairs.
Quite extrarordinary considering none of us were professional historians.
