5 Reasons We're Hip for Ana Gasteyer
You may know Ana Gasteyer best for her six years as a Saturday Night Live cast member starting in 1996. On SNL she made viewers laugh with iconic skits such as NPR’s Delicious Dish, Martha Stewart’s Topless Christmas, and the Celine Dion Show.
Gasteyer wasn’t always a comedian. She started as a classically trained singer and now has released her debut album, I’m Hip. We're excited to have her on The Jonathan Channel this weekend, so we've gathered together our top 5 Ana Gasteyer moments. Here is a glimpse of Ana’s hilariously entertaining work from her on stage performances to her classic SNL skits:
1) Many of our first memories of Ana were from her SNL skit NPR’s Delicious Dish. Here she is in December 1998 with Molly Shannon and Alec Baldwin with the famous Christmas special Schweddy Balls.
2) The Great American Songbook and Comedy - it’s a time tested pairing. Think the Rat Pack, letting loose with glasses of whiskey in hand during performances in the 60s. In this video, Ana continues in that tradition, also with a glass of whiskey in hand. Check out the “One Mint Julep” video made from her new album, I’m Hip.
3) Following months of jokes aimed at Weight Watchers on Twitter, the company made Ana a spokesperson. Ana swings in this commercial parody of “Fever.”
4) This short clip of Ana impersonating Barbra Streisand on SNL in 1997 is “from a galaxy far far away"...
5) Here is Ana in 2013 preforming the show stopping “Defying Gravity,” from her role as Elphaba in Wicked, at The Columbia Club in Indianapolis during her show Elegant Songs from a Handsome Woman.
