#3954: Music for Bowed Strings and Voices

Nordic Affect plays music by Úlfur Hansson on the new record, "Raindamage"
From

Listen to works all built around sounds of strings with & without voices, with music from Icelandic composers, Úlfur Hansson and Atli Heimir Sveinsson, a piece from an American-based British composer Jane Antonia Cornish, and music arranged for chamber orchestra by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt.

Hear contemplative music by Icelandic composer Úlfur Hansson, his “Þýð,” which means something close to “translate,” as performed by Icelandic quartet, Nordic Affect. It’s from a record of works that explore the interconnectivity of the natural and the manufactured in overlapping disciplines of  popular, noise and electronic music – called Raindamage. Also, listen to a work with a reflective musical surface by British-born, but NYC-based Jane Antonia Cornish for cello quartet.

Then, hear music that suspends time from veteran Icelandic composer Atli Heimir Sveinsson for choir and strings, “Autumn Pictures.” It’s a setting of short poems- sketches of natural scenes, written for the conductor, Thorgerdur Ingólfsdóttir, for her wedding.  Plus, the Ísafold Chamber Orchestra from Iceland conducted by Daníel Bjarnason, plays music by Arvo Pärt – in a version of chamber orchestra and percussion of his “Fratres.”
