New Sounds presents a whole week of programs surveying the Irish new music landscape to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising in Ireland on Sunday, April 24.

In this, Episode 1, John Schaefer travels to Ireland and brings back some music for a series of episodes dedicated to Irish composers. In this first episode, John talks to Cork-based composer Irene Buckley. We'll hear some of her vocal works, an orchestral piece, and haunting excerpts from her scores to the silent films "The Fall from the House of Usher" and "The Passion of Joan of Arc." Also featured are works from composers Benedict Schlepper-Connolly and Garrett Sholdice performed by the Ergodos Musicians.
