Maesie Songs?

Thursday, February 04, 2010 - 10:42 AM

Yesterday, February 3rd, our Senior Producer Megan Ryan gave birth to a baby girl - Measie Ryan Strauss! We couldn't find that many songs about Maesies (or Maisies, or Mayzies, or Maisys), at least any good ones.

The Theme to The Cartoon Maisy Mouse

Seussical: The Musical has a song "Amazing Mayzie" (this from the Spring Woods High School 2005 production)

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Add to the list by suggesting and other Maesie songs below!

"Still Mazey After All These Years" is perhaps Gardens' most touching tune.

Congratulations on the birth of your beautiful daughter!

Really awesome thread!
You know, of all the bands that could fall equally between Mazey Gardens and Syd Barrett - i gotta say it's the Roadside Graves ~
Somebody and Maesie Ryan Strauss might just get their wish for a new song about these 'Maesie days of winter'....

Ann Southern, the great commedian of the 40's and 50's did a series of movies with the great "Maisie" (Woody Allen has a daughter named Maisie, after the character) I think there was also a TV show based on Maisie.

Don't worry, your baby won't be "cursed" like Mazey Gardens (R.I.P.). When will Mazey's musical genius be recognized by the Country Music Hall of Fame!?! STOP THE INJUSTICE!!!!

When I heard the name "Maisie" I immediately thought of Ann Southern, who was an actor on radio, films and in the early days of television.

She played a character named Maisie, who was very popular at the time - sort of like a "Lucy" (Lucille Ball) type.

I'm not sure if she had her own identifiable theme song, however there is a trove of info available on the web about her.

Here is a link from IMBD which refers to her first "Maisie" film from 1939:

And here is a page which links to a bio of the radio show, called "The Adventures of Maisie"

Ann Southern had a very long and successful career, and Maisie was one of her most endearing characters - certainly to any of the "Baby Boomers" who liten to Brian's show.

Hopefully these links will help you in a search for a good theme song.

Congratulations to Megan and Maesie (whose name seems to be spelled two different ways in the post so I hope I got it right.)

I wanted to stand up for the Maisie Mouse song, which as a mother of a 3-year-old I hear all the time! That "obscure British cartoon" & its accompanying books are a big hit around here, and I'll bet in a few years' time Maesie Ryan Strauss will be a fan. One of the best things about Maisie cartoons is actually the music -- not so much the theme song, though that's catchy enough, but the little reggae-inspired ditties that pop up throughout the show. I get them in my head all the time.

But yes, please play the Syd Barrett song -- I don't know it and would like to!

I second that. Mazey Gardens is the best!

The greatest musical Mazey of all time is Mazey Gardens.

Dr. Suess has another Maesie song, 'Daisy-Head Maesie'. The name may be spelled Maisy in this one and the it may not help in the annoying factor, but it's a song that will definitely stick in your mind. It's from a cartoon special based on one of his books.

Syd Barrett, "Maisie". Not exactly a children's song, but great. On the album "Barrett."

Charly's mom

Not the song's title but my mom used to sing "Sidewalks of New York" to my sister and me. It starts with "Maisy, Maisy, give me your answer do"
