A horrific scene unfolded in Maspeth, Queens on Thursday morning when a car slammed into a group of children near their school, I.S. 73. As the Daily News reported, people raced to help, including a group of men who lifted the car off of two students pinned underneath.

Witnesses and officials told the News that the car was pulling into a parking space when the driver apparently hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. Five children were injured. All are expected to recover.

Witness Lynx Garcia said she cradled one of the hurt kids until an ambulance arrived. "She said, 'Just hold me,' Garcia said told the Daily News. "I kept her face from looking at her leg."
