LIST: 2013 TIGER Grants Winners
Kansas City's streetcar, Atlanta's BeltLine, and Rochester's Inner Loop all won big in the latest round of Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grants.
The competitive grant program awarded $474 million to 52 projects across the country.
"The emphasis is trying to help communities become what they envision," said DOT secretary Anthony Foxx in a phone call with reporters on Thursday.
But the program, which is hugely popular with states, is under threat by sequester. "Here's the deal," said Foxx. "Sequester is a blunt instrument that will wreak havoc in not only programs like this but also ... in other lines of DOT business. And our drive right now is to avoid that as best as can be done."
