314: Inside Top Chef with Top Model Host Padma Lakshmi

This time on America’s Test Kitchen, we speak with Padma Lakshmi, a model, actress, and cookbook author who is most well known for her work as the host of Top Chef. We’ll find out all about salad spinners from gadget guru Lisa McManus, and we’ll be tasting wines with expert Stephen Meuse. Then we’ll head into the test kitchen to learn how to make quick and easy cinnamon buns. And of course, we’ll be taking your calls to answer all of your cooking questions.

No doubt Padma is entertaining. We are Top Chef aficionados and own every season. But she's full of...beans when she says, "...you can watch it with your whole family." The show is totally inappropriate for kids. No doubt chefs are traditionally a foul-mouthed lot, and I don't judge them for that. But the show, especially the direct responses from the cheftestants is shot edited in such a way as to almost promote or encourage the use of foul language. Are Bevis and Butthead in the edit bay? The bleeped comments are rampant, and they ain't fooling anybody. This season (12) the bleeps almost overtake the actual dialog. I know I'm not the first one to bring it up, this has been a complaint for years. Enough already! We'd LOVE to be able to share the love of cooking (and competition) with our kids.
